Mental health affects a significant portion, 20%, of Australians aged 16 – 85, and at Long Beach Medical Centre, we believe in breaking down stigmas surrounding it. We encourage anyone experiencing concerns or symptoms to schedule an appointment with one of our GPs. Our dedicated team not only assesses and provides ongoing mental health checks but also offers counselling when necessary. Our aim is to ensure that individuals receive the support they need to minimise the adverse effects of these symptoms, promoting overall well-being and emotional health.

A mental health consultation in an Australian general practice setting, conducted by a General Practitioner (GP), offers essential support and assessment for patients struggling with emotional well-being. During this confidential session, the GP listens attentively to the patient’s concerns, provides guidance, and explores treatment options, which may include counselling, medication, or referrals to specialised mental health professionals. This holistic approach aims to promote mental wellness, reduce stigma, and ensure that patients receive the appropriate care they need to improve their mental health and overall quality of life

Your GP may also suggest developing a GP Mental Health Treatment plan if they feel you will benefit from the service.

A GP Mental Health Plan is a personalised, comprehensive strategy developed by a General Practitioner (GP) in Australia to address a patient’s mental health concerns. This plan involves a structured assessment, diagnosis, and tailored treatment approach, often combining therapy, counselling, or medication. The benefits to the patient include access to subsidised Medicare rebates for up to ten sessions with a mental health professional, improved mental well-being, enhanced coping skills, and a more coordinated and holistic approach to managing their mental health challenges. This plan ensures that patients receive the necessary support and resources to work towards better mental health outcomes.

Each patient is eligible for 1 plan every 12 months

A GP Mental Health Plan Review is a crucial follow-up assessment in Australia, designed to evaluate and adjust the ongoing mental health treatment plan previously established by a General Practitioner (GP). It allows for the assessment of the patient’s progress, the effectiveness of the existing plan, and any necessary modifications to enhance treatment outcomes. Benefits to the patient include continued access to Medicare rebates for mental health services, optimised treatment strategies, and the assurance of receiving appropriate and timely support tailored to their evolving mental health needs. This review ensures that patients receive the most effective and personalised care on their path to improved mental well-being.

Reviews can be done every 3 months.

Menal Health Counselling service is similar to MH Consultation, but it involves deeper consultation between the GP and the Patient. The patient may be assisted by a supporting person for the entire consultation period or part thereof.
